| NPA Public Relations and Public Affairs |
Good media and public relations are at the heart of every thriving business. Through its national 'Ask Your Pharmacist' advertising campaign, the NPA actively promotes the pharmacist as a highly trained and accessible member of the community healthcare team. This message is the focus of all the NPA's consumer PR activities.Members are encouraged to help promote their profession through PR activities but it is important that they do so from an informed position. Members can obtain advice on all aspects of public affairs and public relations including liaising with parliamentarians, public bodies and other professions, campaigns, events management and dealing with the media. The PR team is responsible for promoting and representing community pharmacy to parliamentarians, civil servants and other key opinion-formers. Through a structured public affairs programme of lobbying, media relations, publications and campaigns, we work to engage decision-makers and influence public policy on healthcare. The NPA is a founder member of the All-Party Pharmacy Group, which was established in 1999 to raise awareness of pharmacy and pharmacists and to promote pharmacy's current and potential contribution to the health of the nation. The Head of PR sits on the APPG planning group, which co-ordinates the issues and events that highlight to Parliamentarians the vital work that pharmacists perform. The PR Department reacts swiftly to news developments. Often, we are the first point of contact for national, regional and pharmacy journalists looking for a pharmacy angle to a news story. Depending on the issue, we can provide a headquarters spokesperson or arrange for the journalist to speak to one of our network of regional media pharmacy spokespeople.
